If you can believe it, I am becoming a bigger geek by the minute. I recently received an Arduino embeded microprocessor development system. I have been wanting to get into personal uprocessor projects for a long time. A lot of recent nerd activity, including the Maker Faire, reignited my interest. As soon as my finals were over I began the search for a good beginner development system. The Arduino should prove to be that system. It is an opens source project, with a gcc comiler ready to go with Windows for free. Best part is, it was cheap, about $30 nothing else needed.
I bought it from Spark Fun Electronics, which is, not coincidentially, my new favorite store. They carry everything a good nerd needs. I have a feeling, they will shortly come to appreciate my business.
Stay tuned for full coverage of my geek activity…

Not true! Not long after conception, the fetus’s appendix makes useful hormones. Later the appendix acts as part of the lymph system producing white blood cells. This function peaks by about 30 and tapers off from there. You don’t really NEED it because it is just a small part of the lymph system, but it is not just a freeloader either.
The coolest thing about the appendix is that it can be used for other things. Say you hold your pee too long and you blow out your bladder. (A common injury, right?) If you find a good surgeon, he may reconstruct the damage using your appendix.
So, hold your pee all you want. Your appendix has your back. Next time you see one of your appendixless friends, encourage them to pee quite often. Otherwise, they may need your appendix.
